Privacy Policy

This policy explains what LISTND collects, how it is used, and who can see it. It is written to be read, not skimmed past, so the most important part is first.
The short version: who can see your data
LISTND stores your data on a secure database. Other users can only ever see the things listed as visible below. Everything else is yours alone.

Your podcast subscriptions and your listening history are never shown to anyone else and never appear in any activity feed. They are stored so the app works across your devices, but they are private to your account.
"Private" here means private from other users. Your data is stored on our database, so we as the operator can access it to run and support the app. We do not sell it and we do not share it except as described below.
A share can carry a note you write yourself. A share travels over an encrypted connection and is stored on encrypted infrastructure, but it is not end-to-end encrypted, which means we are technically able to read it. We look at the contents of a share only where we need to, for example to investigate a report, to diagnose a defect, or where the law requires it. LISTND is not a secure messaging tool, so please do not put anything sensitive or confidential in a note.
Once you send a share the recipient keeps it, and removing it on your side does not remove their copy.
Who we are
LISTND is operated by Sonya William, as a sole proprietorship based in Ontario, Canada. Sonya William is the data controller responsible for your information.

What we collect
Account information. You create an account using Sign in with Apple or Google. Depending on the method, we receive and store your email address. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive Apple's private relay address rather than your real one, which is fine.
Profile information. Your username, and optionally a display name, a short bio, and an avatar image. This information is part of your public profile.
Your activity in the app. Podcasts you subscribe to, your listening progress on episodes, episodes you download, podcasts and episodes you like, lists you create, people and lists you follow, and shares you send or receive, including any note written in them.
Kids profiles. You can add a kids profile to your account to keep the podcasts you play for a child separate from your own listening. We store the name you give the profile, along with the subscriptions, listening progress and downloads played under it. A kids profile is managed only from your account and has no email address or password of its own. It is never shown to other users, and what is played under it does not appear in your feed or your activity.
Push notification data. If you enable notifications, we store a device token so we can send them, along with your notification preferences and a log of notifications sent.
Android waitlist. If you ask us to tell you when LISTND reaches Android, we store the email address you give us and the date you gave it. We use it for exactly one thing: a single email when the Android app is available. It is kept on our own database, it is never sold or shared, it is not added to any other mailing, and the list is deleted once that email has gone out. Ask us at any time and we will remove you sooner.
What we do not do
We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services. There are no Firebase, Mixpanel, Sentry, or similar tools in the app.
We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. Because LISTND does no cross-app tracking, it does not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework and will never show you the "Ask App Not to Track" prompt. There is nothing to track.
We do not sell your personal information.
How your data is used
We use your information to run the app: to sign you in, sync your subscriptions and progress across your devices, build your personalized feeds, deliver shares and notifications you have opted into, and operate the social features you choose to use.
Who we share data with
LISTND relies on a small number of outside services to function. These are service providers, not advertisers or data buyers.
Supabase provides our database, authentication, and hosting. Your account data is stored here.
Apple iTunes Search API is used to search and discover podcasts. When you search, your device contacts Apple's service directly, which means Apple receives your IP address as part of that request.
Podcast feeds (RSS). To show episode details, your device fetches podcast feeds directly from the hosts that publish them. Those hosts receive your IP address as part of that request, as they would for any podcast app.
Podcast Index is used as a backup search source. These requests are routed through our own server, so Podcast Index does not receive your IP address directly.
Resend sends an email to our support inbox when someone submits a report, so we can review it promptly. The email contains the report, the username of the person who filed it and how many reports they have filed.
Beyond these, we share data only if required by law.
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored and processed on Supabase infrastructure located in the United States (US East, Ohio). If you are located in Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, or elsewhere outside the United States, your data is transferred to and stored in the United States and may be subject to US law. Where the law of your country requires a legal mechanism for that transfer, we rely on the mechanism it provides.
How long we keep your data
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your data is removed as described below.
Deleting your account and your data
You can permanently delete your account from within the app. When you do, we delete your data across our systems. This is a hard deletion, not a deactivation, and once it is done you cannot sign back in with the same account.
There is one exception. If you previously submitted a safety report about another user, that report is kept for trust-and-safety reasons, but it is anonymized so it is no longer linked to your identity.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data, including the right to access it, correct it, and delete it. You can edit your profile and delete your account directly in the app. For any other request, contact us at support@listnd.app and we will respond.
These rights are supported under laws including Canada's PIPEDA, the UK GDPR, Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information, and California's CCPA.
Children
LISTND is not directed to children and is intended for people 16 and over, or the higher minimum age required where you live. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone below these ages. If you believe someone under 16 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
A kids profile does not change this. It is managed entirely by the account holder, and the child never signs in or provides information to us. The only information stored is what the account holder enters, as described above.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, provide notice in the app. Continued use of LISTND after a change means you accept the updated policy.
